چکیده

The stochastic properties of the binary channel that describe the successes and the failures of the transmission of a modulated signal over a time correlated flat fading channel is considered for investigation. This analysis is employed to develop -th order Markov models for such a burst channel. The order of the Markov model that generates accurate analytical models is estimated for a broad range of fading environments. The parameterization and the accuracy of an important class of hidden Markov models known as the Gilbert-Elliott channel are also investigated. Fading rates are identified in which the -th order and the Gilbert-Elliott channel model approximate the fading channel with similar accuracy. The latter model is useful for approximating slowly fading processes, since it provides a far more compact parameterization.

A Blind Hammerstein Diversity Combining Technique for Flat Fading Channels

Diversity combining techniques play an important role in combating the destructive effects of channel fading in wireless communication systems. In this work we present a blind diversity combining technique for Rayleigh flat fading channels based on Hammerstein type filters. We show that the performance of this technique is very close to ideal MRC system which is accepted as an optimum receiver ...

C. Komninakis and R. D. Wesel: Joint Iterative Channel Estimation and Decoding in Flat Correlated Rayleigh Fading

Abstract— This paper addresses the design and performance evaluation with respect to capacity of M-PSK turbo-coded systems operating in frequency-flat, time-selective Rayleigh fading. The receiver jointly performs channel estimation and turbo decoding, allowing the two processes to benefit from each other. To this end, we introduce a suitable Markov model with a finite number of states, designe...

Bit Error Performance for Asynchronous Ds Cdma Systems Over Multipath Rayleigh Fading Channels (RESEARCH NOTE)

In recent years, there has been considerable interest in the use of CDMA in mobile communications. Bit error rate is one of the most important parameters in the evaluation of CDMA systems. In this paper, we develop a technique to find an accurate approximation to the probability of bit error for asynchronous direct–sequence code division multiple–access (DS/CDMA) systems by modeling the multipl...

Implicit and Explicit Receiver Training in Flat Fading Channels Modeled as Finite State Markov Processes

We study the effect of training method on the receiver bit error rate (BER) performance in constant envelope phase modulation schemes that are transmitted through flat fading channels. Here we propose a novel method for receiver training by sending information bits with unbalanced probabilities. We call this method implicit training and compare it with traditional (explicit) training scheme in ...

An Information-theoretic Measure for the Selection of Effective Memory Order in Flat-fading Channels

In this paper, we consider an information-theoretic measure for the selection of effective memory order in time-varying flat-fading (FF) channels in the Jakes-Clarke’s model. The measure is based on how many past realisations of the fading channel actively contribute to an achievable information rate lower bound through the channel. The lower bound signifies the achievable information rate when...
